The Baby Birds went 3-4 on Thursday with Memphis and State College winning. State College won a game that was suspended from earlier this year and also won the regularly scheduled game. Springfield, Peoria, Palm Beach, and Johnson City all lost. Memphis is now tied for first and Springfield is eliminated from post season play and Palm Beach is nearly eliminated with an elimination number of 1.

Memphis beats New Orleans 2-1 on Thursday to move into a tie for first place. Jamie Romak had two his for the Redbirds and Jermaine Curtis had the game winning RBI in the 9th inning. Carlos Martinez was spectacular for Memphis on Thursday. Over 7 innings, Martinez allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and he struck out 6. Lee Stoppelman made his Memphis debut and pitched a scoreless 8th to pick up his first win. Jorge Rondon added a scoreless 9th for his first save.

Springfield lost to Arkansas 6-4 on Thursday, eliminating them from post season play. Stephen Piscotty led the way with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Cody Stanley and Luis Mateo each had 2 hits as well. Anthony Ferrara picked up his 6th loss allowing 5 runs on 4 hits over 5 innings. Justin Wright allowed a run in 2 innings and Dean Kiekhefer tossed a scoreless inning in the 8th to close it out.

Palm Beach lost to Charlotte 1-0 on Thursday, which brought their elimination number down to 1. Charlie Tilson had 2 hits out of the leadoff spot for Palm Beach. Patrick Wisdom, Nick Longmire, and Anthony Garcia had the other hits for the Cards. Ryan Sherriff was excellent in the loss. Over 7 2/3 innings, Sherriff allowed 5 hits, a run (unearned), no walks, and he struck out 2. Robert Stock recorded the last out for Palm Beach.

Clinton beat Peoria 3-2 on Thursday. Nick Martini led the way with 2 doubles and an RBI. Jordan Walton also picked up 2 hits. Gerwuins Velazco also had an RBI on the night. Mike Mayers took his third loss of the season allowing 3 runs on 7 hits over 3 2/3 innings. Joe Scanio was stellar out of the pen for the Chiefs, allowing just a hit and a walk over 4 1/3 innings. Dixon Llorens struck out the side in the 9th to finish the game.

State College hangs on to beat Jamestown 9-8 on Thursday. The Jammers scored 4 times in the top of the 9th to take the lead 8-4, but the Spikes came back with 5 in the bottom of the 9th to win. This game was the completion of a game that was suspended earlier in the year. The Spikes had home runs from Brett Wiley, Richard Castillo, and Carson Kelly. Jimmy Bosco and Cesar Valera added 3 hits as well. Jeff Rauh allowed 4 runs on 5 hits over 1 1/3 innings but picks up his second win of the season.

State College completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Jamestown. Steven Ramos had two hits, two RBI’s, and scored two runs. Jimmy Bosco had 2 doubles and scored 2 runs. Alex De Leon hit his 4th home run. Andrew Pierce picked up his second win allowing just 1 hit and no earned runs over 6 innings.

Burlington beat Johnson City 6-3 on Thursday. Kenneth Peoples-Walls led the way with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Ronnierd Garcia had a hit, RBI, and run scored. Vaughn Bryan and Justin Ringo each had a hit and run scored. Alex Reyes got the start on his 19th birthday and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits over 5 innings. Luis Perdomo threw 2 perfect innings in relief.
