The St. Louis Blues have announced that David Perron has been traded to the Edmonton Oilers. In exchange, the Blues have acquired LW Magnus Paajarvi and a second round draft pick in 2014 from the Oilers.
Paajarvi, 22, was Edmonton’s first round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, 10th overall. Paajarvi recorded 16 points (9 goals and 7 assists) last season for Edmonton in a total of 42 games. He also recorded a hat trick in his first NHL preseason game in 2010.
David Perron was drafted in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, first round and 26th overall. Perron recorded 25 points last season (10 goals and 15 assists) in a total of 48 games. In this year’s playoffs, Perron was held scoreless with only two assists in six games as the Kings defeated the Blues in six games in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
The Blues have signed free agents Derek Roy, Max Lapierre and Keith Aucoin this off-season and they have also re-signed Kevin Shattenkirk, Jordan Leopold, and Patrik Berglund.
With this deal, the Blues will save $3.8M in cap space this year and $12.25M over the next three years.
