The St. Louis Cardinals have requested several rookies to take Hwy. 55 north to St. Louis on multiple occasions this season. In fact, the Cardinals have called up 11 pitchers this season. The latest call-up, Kevin Siegrist, had a pretty incredible outing on Saturday night against the Cincinnati Reds.
So what did Siegrist do? He pumped cheddar and challenged Votto. Siegrist, firing fastballs from 92-94 mph, fell behind Votto, who may have the best eye in all of baseball. Siegrist then came back to pain two blazing fastballs on the corner to retire Votto looking. Not easy to do.
Now with the bases loaded and two outs, Siegrist once again went right after a former MLB All-star and struck Bruce out as well, also looking.
It was a pretty impressive showing in a pretty important situation. With the Cardinals trailing 4-2, it was imperative for Siegrist to keep the score right there to give the Cardinals a chance to come back. Siegrist did the job and then some.
Siegrist, like the rest of this impressive class of rookies, looks like he has the stuff, and the moxie, to contribute for the Cardinals in a variety of roles going forward for years to come.
